Farm Fresh Eggs
B Y T H E D O Z E N
Our layers are free-range chickens with access to shelter at night in their coop to keep them safe; we pick eggs daily. They are fed wheat, layer ration and oyster shell, which keeps their eggshells hard. We get fresh layers in the spring that are just starting to lay an egg, and when the winter comes, we have to sell them as we do not have indoor barns to overwinter them. We keep a rooster (Rodney) with the hens, and he keeps them safe by calling out when a predator is around.
