Fresh Flower Care Tips

Keep your blooms vibrant, fresh, and beautiful for longer

With just a few simple care steps, you can enjoy your fresh-cut flowers for days—sometimes even weeks. Here’s how to give them the best chance to thrive:

1. Water Quality & Hydration

  • Use clean water: Fill your vase with fresh, lukewarm water. Filtered or distilled water is ideal to help prevent bacterial growth.

  • Change water regularly: Replace the water every two days to keep it clear and debris-free.

  • Add flower food: Use a packet of commercial flower food, or make your own with a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar per quart of water.

  • Avoid overfilling: Fill the vase just enough to cover the stems. Avoid submerging any leaves, as this can lead to bacterial buildup.

2. Temperature Control

  • Keep flowers cool: Display arrangements in a cool area, away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or warm appliances.

  • Avoid drafts: Keep flowers out of the path of air conditioners, open windows, and fans, which can cause them to dry out faster.

  • Use the refrigeration trick: If possible, place flowers in the refrigerator overnight at around 40°F (4°C) to prolong their freshness.

3. Trimming & Stem Care

  • Cut stems at an angle: Use sharp scissors or pruning shears to cut stems at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption.

  • Re-cut every few days: Trim a small amount off the stems every two to three days to keep water flowing freely.

  • Remove submerged leaves: Strip away any foliage that will sit below the waterline to reduce the risk of bacteria.

  • Use the right tools: Always use clean, sharp tools to avoid crushing the stems.

By following these easy care tips, you’ll help your flowers stay healthy and full of life—bringing joy to your space for as long as possible.
